Volunteers for 22nd Annual Jazz at Palms Court Champagne Brunch, Saturday 9/13/14 and Sunday 9/14/14

Venice Community Housing seeks volunteers to help with a variety of tasks at our annual fundraising event, featuring live jazz music and a gourmet brunch in a garden courtyard in Venice. Catering and event experience preferred, but all are welcome!

Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older and should expect to be on their feet for several hours during their shift.

Volunteer English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor for Adult Residents of Venice Community Housing Corporation

VCH is currently seeking a volunteer to serve as an ESL instructor for residents who live in our buildings. 

SERVICE DESCRIPTION

The ESL Instructor will teach basic conversational English to native Spanish speakers in a small community room setting.  Classes will be held in the evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (some scheduling flexibility).  The ESL Instructor is expected to:
  • Teach one or two ESL classes per week
  • Prepare lessons to be taught in each session
  • Keep attendance records via sign-in sheets of residents who attend the ESL classes
  • Report problems or challenges to the program staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have experience in teaching ESL to adult learners preferred.  Must be bi-lingual Spanish/English.  Available to start immediately.

Volunteer Computer Instructor for Adult Residents of Venice Community Housing

VCH is currently seeking a volunteer to serve as a basic skills computer instructor for residents who live in our buildings.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION

The Computer Instructor will teach a basic course in a small community room setting (computers provided). Classes will be held in the evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (some scheduling flexibility). The Computer Instructor is expected to:

  • Teach one or two basic skills computer classes per week
    • Email
    • Internet research
    • Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Prepare lessons to be taught in each session
  • Keep attendance records via sign-in sheets of residents who attend the classes
  • Report problems or challenges to the program staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma required, bachelor's degree preferred. A background in computer technology, education or related field is preferred. Relevant work experience is acceptable substitution for degree. Background check may be required.

Young Professionals Board Members

Venice Community Housing seeks young professionals in their 20s and 30s to become members of its Young Professionals Board, which raises awareness and support for VCH's vital services by organizing and participating in volunteer and outreach events throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated and philanthropic-minded young people to network, practice leadership, and support their community.
