Formed in 1988 by grassroots activists interested in preserving affordable housing in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, Venice Community Housing Corporation (VCHC) has grown to a comprehensive community development corporation with family support programs, gang prevention programs, job training and affordable housing. VCHC owns and manages 195 units of affordable housing, including a 32-bed transitional housing facility for homeless women and their children. Additionally VCHC operates YouthBuild, a job training and transitional employment program for “at risk” youth, a gang-diversion program for middle school youth, an after school arts and education program for elementary school children, and a home repair program for low income elderly or disabled home owners. Today, the organization has a 32-person staff and an operating budget over $3 million.

CONTROLLER
VCHC seeks an experience Controller to manage the organization's accounting activities including the oversight of the company assets. Develop and implement and maintain accounting systems of internal control, policies and procedures. Compile reports and analyze accounting data for internal management, outside funding sources, government agencies and VCHC's auditor. Supervise the accounting staff and ensue timely billing of government grants. This is a full-time exempt position. The Controller reports to the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in accounting and a minimum of seven years experience managing the Finance-Accounting department of a non-profit organization. Experience with government contracts required. Advanced knowledge in Excel and QuickBooks, computer skills, including word processor, databases, and property management software.
Exceptional analytical and management skills, detail-oriented, and excellent verbal and written communication required.
Must pass a criminal, credit, and driving background checks. Valid California license and current vehicle insurance required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job frequently requires sitting for extended periods of time entering data into a computer and handling objects with hands. Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
SALARY
Commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vacation, sick time, 12 holidays and 2 personal days.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop, manage, and maintain financial procedures and internal controls.
- Mange cash including preparation of cash flow projections.
- Prepare and analyze periodic financial statements and budget variances reports for managers and for the Board of Directors.
- Monitor expenditures and prepare reports for outside funding and government agencies.
- Responsible for accurate and timely completion of routine accounting functions including bank reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, weekly payroll and monthly grant billing.
- Oversee the integrity of general ledger including monthly account reconciliation and general ledger analysis.
- Set up audit schedules in a timely manner and act as the primary contact for VCHC's outside auditors.
- Prepare annual budgets in conjunction with the Executive Director and other Program Directors.
- Other duties as assigned.
